"Education in the Lower School is an exciting blend of discovery, discussion, and application of an ever-increasing bank of knowledge. The curriculum provides an exceptionally strong foundation for students in an atmosphere of challenge, encouragement, creativity, and discipline."
Cris Crisler Lower School Director
Lower School Overview The Second through Fifth Grade curriculum is designed to build on the foundation of the Early Childhood program and to expand and challenge young minds. Reading, Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies form the core of the curriculum, complemented by classes in Spanish, Technology, Library, Physical Education, Music, and Drama, and Art. Science classes are primarily lab-based, focusing on physical, biological, and environmental science. All academic subjects are sequentially linked through the grades, using various themes and activities to provide an immediate application of skills.
At every level, teachers encourage group interaction and cooperative ventures where children participate in decision-making and learn a sense of responsibility and respect for others. Organizational skills and time management are of primary importance as Saint Paul’s School develops students who are eager to learn, confident in their abilities, and respectful of their classmates and teachers.
