"During adolescence, students need a trusting foundation on which to build a viable life structure. Constructing confidence and developing academic abilities are the pillars supporting their future successes. At Saint Paul’s, we engineer that development with care and determination. It’s a process that begins in the fields of curiosity and continues into the structures of understanding." Pete Fisher Middle School Director
Middle School Overview
The goal of the Middle School is to foster each student’s independence while encouraging discipline, curiosity, responsibility, and individuality. Maintaining standards of academic excellence is essential, yet expectations are realistic so that students can build self-confidence while in a safe and caring environment during these years of definition. Critical thinking and preparation for higher learning are primary focal points of the Middle School, leading to Saint Paul’s students being sought after by the area’s finest high schools.
Field trips to local cultural
events and overnight excursions supplement the class curriculum and
help develop friendships and cooperation among the students. In
addition, professionals from different areas of expertise visit the
campus to enrich class studies and inspire students to investigate new
worlds of opportunities.
Curriculum-related
activities include trips to the Clearwater Marine Science Center, Sea
Camp in the Florida Keys, and Washington, D.C. All Middle School
students also participate in all-day grade level dynamics at the Day
Spring Episcopalian Retreat in Ellenton, FL once per year. Eighth
Graders also participate in a week-long outdoor adventure program known
as Wolfcreek.
Each Middle School student is assigned to a small advisory group led by
a faculty member or administrator. Groups meet informally each week to
discuss a variety of academic and social issues. Advisors serve as advocates for the students, track their academic progress and foster
involvement in extracurricular activities and leadership roles. Group
activities with grade level advisor groups occur throughout the year.
