Beginning in prekindergarten, students attend weekly computer classes to learn basic computer skills through the use of age-appropriate educational software. A close partnership between technology instructors and classroom teachers facilitates integration of curricular concepts. Students explore geography, math, science, language arts, and the world around them through interactive programs and online resources. Creativity and problem solving are encouraged as students develop confidence in their abilities. In addition to traditional skill- building applications, students learn to use software for visual mapping, brainstorming, organizing, creating multi-media presentations, and simulations. Keyboarding and word processing are an ongoing focus of instruction. Classroom teachers schedule additional lab time or utilize wireless laptops for class projects that involve research, word processing, multi-media presentations, or when reinforcing math and language skills.
