The math program is designed to teach students both the skills and the concepts necessary for success in mathematics. Students are placed in classes that allow for individual development. All courses include lessons on calculator use, problem-solving, and computer applications. Manipulatives are used to reinforce the concepts being taught in the classroom.
Mathematics - Grade 6
The sixth grade math program includes all operations with whole numbers, fractions, and decimals. Geometry and measurement are investigated as well as work with ratios, proportions, and percents.
Mathematics - Grade 7
Seventh grade reinforces and expands upon the sixth grade program. Integers and algebra concepts are explored. The advanced seventh grade class is a pre-algebra course. All operations with real numbers are included. Problem-solving and geometry are emphasized and algebra concepts are explored. After successful completion of this course, students are prepared to enter an Algebra I class.
Mathematics - Grade 8
All eighth grade students take algebra. The advanced eighth grade class is a high school level Algebra I course. Topics include solving equations, polynomials, factoring, irrational numbers, and quadratic equations.
