The middle school technology program builds on the skills students have developed in lower school. Using both Windows and Macintosh computers, students develop proficiency and confidence in their ability to adapt and learn new software, operating systems, and utilize various hardware components. Technology classes continue once a week throughout their middle school career. The curriculum for the classes is a balance between instruction and education creating a basic understanding of “how it all works”, and developing more advanced skills through direct application with assignments designed to enhance various subject area curriculum. These projects are designed and presented jointly by the subject area teacher and the technology instructor. In addition to using the standard Microsoft Office software products including PowerPoint, students use digital cameras and video cameras with software such as Photoshop, iMovie and Dreamweaver to create, edit and present their work as movies and web pages.
